GSST 2040 Gender, the Nation, and Law 3.0 Credits
This course examines how notions of sex and gender shape broad concepts of the law and ideas of the nation, and how law impacts social, economic, and political citizenships. It is an interdisciplinary approach to analyzing the intersections between gender, the nation, and law through concrete contexts—such as globalization, diaspora, and digital humanities. Through an emphasis on applied knowledge, students will learn to analyze the complexities in which the law and nation formation has contended with sexual difference, gender expressions, and meanings of equality and liberty in its theories, implementations, and histories. Areas of focus include different South Asian, African, Middle Eastern, and United States contexts.
