GSST 2050 Gender, Race, and the History of Science 3.0 Credits
This course offers a critical exploration of “race” "gender" and “sex” as concepts that are historically situated in science and medicine. This course will investigate how these categories became central frameworks for classifying human difference. Students will read broadly across geographies and historical periods to uncover how the writings of scientists, physicians, naturalists, and healers shaped larger conceptualizations of the body and social systems. Course work includes archival exploration and readings in feminist theory, disability studies, and queer studies.
