GSST 3005 Queer Theory 3.0 Credits
Queer Theory is a dynamic interdisciplinary field that informs a wide range of cultural, academic, and artistic practices. This course studies the development of queer theory as well as its core concepts, key issues, and applications beyond identity politics. While considering theoretical frames for thinking gender, sexuality, and sex, the course will explore the possibilities—and limitations—of queer theory with a focus on modes of knowledge and embodiments. The course will draw upon work in areas such as politics, philosophy, cultural studies, and literary study. No prior knowledge of queer theory is required. This course challenges modes of thinking and fosters innovation and intellectual independence to inform future work in any chosen field of inquiry.
