GSST 3006 Critical Masculinities 3.0 Credits
This course investigates the intersectional subjectivities of masculinity. It aims to study deeply the ways scholars have investigated masculinities and how the public has thought about the subject. Paying attention to how context (both place and time) and other aspects of identity intersect with and potentially shape masculinities, students will study different factors such as transhistorical, cultural, and racial to help makes sense of change and difference over time. The course will concentrate on unpacking the complexities of agency and structure in the dynamics of masculinities to enable sophisticated approaches to the topic. This course challenges modes of thinking and fosters innovation and intellectual independence to inform any type of future work. Suitable for students across disciplines.
