HIST 1460 The Historical Jesus 3.0 Credits

Students will analyze translations of the New Testament, other early Christian writings, and Roman histories in light of Jesus's historical context of Jewish life in Judea and Galilee under Roman occupation before the destruction of the Jerusalem Temple. Students learn to think like an historian by examining evidence and applying historical methods to write their own historical interpretations of who Jesus was, what he taught, and the nature of the movement he led. Students will also practice historical debate through engagement with their classmates and the writings of professional historians.
