HIST 1740 American Indian History 3.0 Credits

This course introduces major themes in American Indian history, including settler colonialism, resistance, survival, renewal, and sovereignty. Periods range from before contact with Europeans up to the present. The course places Indian voices at the center of history and historical writing, while also showing how historical writing by non-native historians has changed over time. Besides learning about the past, students develop language and concepts useful for understanding Indian politics and culture in the present.
