HIST 1842 Medicine Before Germs 3.0 Credits
The focus for this course is the history of health, illness, and healing before the acceptance of the germ theory of disease dramatically transformed Western medicine around the turn of the twentieth century. Students explore medical theories and practices, medicine’s connections to broader social and cultural contexts, and the lived experiences of patients and practitioners through sources created by those individuals and by modern historians.
