HIST 1843 History of Modern Medicine 3.0 Credits

This course surveys the intellectual, and social-cultural history of Western laboratory-based medicine from the late-19th century to the present. It focuses on the political, economic, institutional, and cultural aspects of the development of scientific medicine. Course materials include biographies, scientific publications, films, and documentaries. It explores the history of medicine through the role of physicians, nurses and other practitioners; and institutions such as hospitals and laboratories.
