HIST 2120 Venice and the Mediterranean 3.0 Credits

Venice was one of the most important states in the Mediterranean for centuries during the medieval and early modern periods. It occupied a key place (both physically and metaphorically) between West and East, between Europe and the Byzantine and later Ottoman empires. This makes Venice an ideal vantage point from which to observe the history of the broader Mediterranean region across economic, religious, political, and cultural dimensions from the post-Roman era to the Napoleonic conquests at the end of the 1700s.
