HIST 2430 The Reformation Age 3.0 Credits

The focus of this course is the period of early modern religious upheaval that shattered the (apparent) unity of Latin Christendom. The course draws on contemporary and later sources to explore the religious and secular background to the period known as the Reformation, the growth of Christian reform movements both famous and obscure, Catholic reform and counter-Reformation efforts, and the legacies of the Reformation age in Europe and beyond. Students will examine how religion operated at different levels of society and how communities dealt with religious change and difference through toleration, cooperation, violence, or other means.
