HIST 2930 Black Labor in the Americas 3.0 Credits
This course examines Black labor in the Americas, centering the historical experiences of workers of African descent and their pivotal role in shaping labor movements and radical activism. Students explore how race, gender, class, and politics structured struggles for wages, rights, and dignity, from slavery and sharecropping to strikes, unions, and industrial organizing. The course emphasizes the historical and enduring impact of Black workers in challenging exploitation and advancing social and economic justice. Students develop skills in critical analysis, historical interpretation, and assessing systems of power.
