HIST 3280 History of Education and Anti-Colonial Resistance 3.0 Credits

This course explores the history of education as a contested site of power, control, and resistance. It examines historically complex moments in the history of education and the resistance forces that emerged globally during liberation struggles. Through diverse materials and worldwide case studies, students learn how intellectuals, teachers, students, and communities used education as a tool of political consciousness that shaped struggles for liberation by forging spaces of critique and opposition. Students in this class will engage critically with the historical study of processes of education that will allow us to think and reflect on educational experiences and to think, imagine, and develop educational practices for revolutionary pedagogy, liberation, and decolonization.
