HMP 5004 Critical Perspectives on Health Inequities: Systems, Structures, Histories and Solutions 3.0 Credits
This course critically examines the fundamental causes of health disparities including systemic/structural racial discrimination, historical trauma, and intergenerational factors with a focus on understanding and eliminating systems that perpetuate inequities. Students explore the historical and contemporary influences of ideologies of whiteness and structural racism on health outcomes in the U.S. and internationally. Through analysis of current research, policy frameworks, and community-driven strategies, students will develop innovative approaches to promote health equity. The course equips students with tools to design evidence-based interventions and policy proposals that address complex public health challenges.
