HMP 8003 Causal Approaches to Policy Evaluation 3.0 Credits
This course builds students’ expertise in quantitative, causal methods for policy and program evaluation. It focuses on natural experiments and matching, approaches students can use to study public policies, the social and biological exposures they govern, or healthcare interventions. Topics include econometrics (difference-in-differences; interrupted time series; synthetic controls; instrumental variables; RDD) as well as advanced matching methods from epidemiology. Students will use statistical software to estimate models, interpret results, and gain a clear sense of how, when, and why to apply these methods in practice.
