HSCI 4030 Pharmacology for Health Sciences 3.0 Credits

This course provides an introduction to the fundamental principles of pharmacology, emphasizing how drugs interact with biological systems to produce therapeutic and adverse effects. Students will explore core concepts including pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, drug–receptor interactions, and drug metabolism. The course also examines how advances in molecular biology and genetics are shaping modern pharmacologic therapies. Drug classes are presented in relation to the physiology and pathophysiology of major body systems, with representative prototype drugs used to illustrate mechanisms of action, therapeutic applications, and clinical considerations. Emphasis is placed on understanding pharmacologic principles and their application to commonly used medications in contemporary clinical practice.
