Students explore structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, data, security, acoustical, and furniture systems alongside lighting design theory, practices and principles. Emphasis is placed on how these systems influence design decisions as well as human needs, perception, mood, and atmosphere, with attention to energy conservation, safety, and industry standards. Visual aids, model building, drawing and guest lectures support the development of technical vocabulary and professional documentation methods.
