IPS 670 Interdisciplinary Perspectives of Health Law 3.0 Credits

This course introduces students to areas of law and legal theory that serve as the basis for the U.S. health care system. Students will examine statues, regulations, and case law that regulate health care practice. Students will observe a courtroom proceeding, integrate professional knowledge with health law principles, and analyze testimony of a clinical expert witness. Some of the areas to be studied include: torts, administrative law, provider liability, defenses, health policy, access to care, federal regulations, the patient safety movement, distinction between criminal and civil action with an emphasis on domestic violence (DV) law and interpersonal violence (IPV) case studies.
