IS 1505 Introduction to Research in Information 3.0 Credits
Introduces students to the range of research methods used to study information, technologies, and the social and organizational contexts in which they operate. The course surveys qualitative, quantitative, computational, and interpretive approaches, including interviewing, observation, survey design, content and discourse analysis, close reading, data mining, text and network analysis, and basic statistical techniques. Emphasis is placed on understanding when and why particular methods are used, how to assess the quality of evidence, and the ethical considerations involved in studying people, systems, and data.
