IS 2515 Social and Ethical Aspects of Information 3.0 Credits
Examines how information technologies, data practices, and sociotechnical systems give rise to complex ethical and social questions. Using case-based examples grounded in virtue ethics, the course analyzes how design decisions, institutional contexts, and power relations influence privacy, surveillance, equity, intellectual property, accessibility, and the governance of data-driven systems. Students evaluate how information infrastructures enable or constrain human flourishing, drawing on virtue ethics and related frameworks for reasoning about responsibility in information work.
