IS 3425 Data Visualization Principles and Practice 3.0 Credits
This course introduces the principles, methods, and practices of data visualization with an emphasis on hands-on learning and design thinking. Students explore how different types of data, such as numerical, categorical, spatial, textual, and network data, can be effectively represented through visual and interactive techniques. The course develops a broad understanding of common visualization types and guides students in selecting appropriate visual forms based on data characteristics, analytical goals, and audience needs. Through practical assignments and projects, students learn to design, create, and evaluate clear and effective data visualizations using contemporary tools, while building foundational skills for communicating insights through data.
