IS 6440 Social Media Data Analysis 3.0 Credits
Explores methods for collecting, analyzing, and visualizing social media content to understand emerging trends across social, organizational, and cultural contexts. Works with diverse data types, like text, interactions, and networks, and apply techniques from natural language processing, machine learning, statistical modeling, and network analysis. Emphasizes connecting online behavior to underlying social processes and addressing ethical, methodological, and platform-specific challenges in studying digital traces. Covers data harvesting, API use, research design, and responsible interpretation of social data. Through lectures, programming assignments, and leadership of a team project, students will build and/or analyze, and communicate insights from a social media data set.
