IS 6825 Information Ethics and Policy 3.0 Credits
Introduces ethics and policy issues in information management and access. Examines how information technologies, data practices, and sociotechnical systems give rise to complex ethical and policy questions. Using case-based examples grounded in professional practice, the course analyzes how design decisions, institutional contexts, and power relations influence privacy, surveillance, equity, intellectual property, accessibility, and the governance of data-driven systems, such as those used in artificial intelligence applications. Students evaluate how information infrastructures enable or constrain human flourishing, drawing on virtue ethics and related frameworks to inform decisions of policy and individual practice in diverse settings.
