JWST 2180 History of the State of Israel 3.0 Credits
This course explores the history of modern Israel from the late 19th-century origins of Zionism through its establishment in 1948 to the present day. Students examine political, social, cultural, and religious dynamics that have contributed to the development and ongoing transformation of the state, including Zionism, mass immigration, relations with neighboring states and international superpowers. Students will also explore the diverse population and their interactions. This historical understanding will empower students to navigate and participate in the contentious and complex debates over Israel in the present.
