LSTU 5001 Legal Foundations I 3.0 Credits
This course introduces students to the structure, processes, and sources of U.S. law, with an emphasis on practical legal literacy and professional communication. Students examine how laws are created, interpreted, and applied by legislatures, courts, and administrative agencies. The course provides foundational exposure to key areas of U.S. law—including constitutional structure and administrative law—situated within real-world regulatory and organizational contexts. Students will develop the skills to identify legal issues, interpret legal authority, and communicate legal concepts clearly, accurately, and professionally for both legal and non-legal audiences. This course establishes foundational competencies required for advanced legal research and applied analysis in Legal Foundations II.
