MEM 2420 Mechanics of Materials 4.0 Credits
Mechanics of Materials introduces the behavior of deformable bodies under external loads, extending the principles of statics. The course examines how internal forces, stresses, strains, and deformations develop in structural and mechanical components. Major topics include axial loading, torsion of circular shafts, bending and shear in beams, combined loading, stress transformation, Mohr’s circle, and beam deflections using integration and energy methods. Students also study column buckling, material response, and introductory failure criteria. Emphasis is placed on problem formulation, idealization, and interpreting results for engineering design.
Repeat Status: Not repeatable for credit
