MEM 3330 Heat Transfer 3.0 Credits
This course presents the fundamental mechanisms of heat transfer—conduction, convection, and radiation—and their application to engineering systems. Students learn to formulate and solve the heat diffusion equation for steady and transient conduction in planar and radial geometries, including thermal circuit modeling and the lumped‑capacitance method. Convection topics cover boundary‑layer theory, forced and free convection in internal and external flows, and correlations for laminar and turbulent regimes. Additional topics include heat exchanger analysis using LMTD and ε‑NTU methods, principles of thermal radiation, blackbody behavior, spectral distributions, surface and solar radiation, and view factors.
Repeat Status: Not repeatable for credit
