MEM 3430 Mechanisms and Machine Element Design 3.0 Credits
This course covers the analysis and design of mechanisms and machine elements used in mechanical systems. Students apply principles of kinematics and dynamics to analyze motion, forces, and performance of linkages, cams, gears, and gear trains. The course also introduces the selection and design of shafts, bearings, fasteners, and springs with attention to stress, fatigue, and reliability. Emphasis is placed on engineering judgment, design methodology, and the use of analytical and computational tools to design and evaluate mechanical components and systems.
Repeat Status: Not repeatable for credit
Prerequisites: (MEM 2420 [Min Grade: D] and MEM 2510 [Min Grade: D]) or (MEM 202 [Min Grade: D] and MEM 230 [Min Grade: D] and MEM 238 [Min Grade: D])
