MEM 4221 Computer Aided Manufacturing 3.0 Credits
This course introduces computer‑aided manufacturing with a strong emphasis on virtual machining—the simulation‑based definition, visualization, and verification of machining operations in a virtual environment. Students learn to detect and correct undesirable design and machining issues early, such as deep pockets, variable‑sized features, multi‑sided cutting, poor surface finish, gouging, or potential tool collisions. The course develops skills in machining process planning, toolpath generation, simulation, and machining‑time–based cost estimation. Students also learn how toolpaths are converted into NC code for producing functional parts in both milling and turning applications.
Repeat Status: Not repeatable for credit
Prerequisites: MEM 1220 [Min Grade: D] or (MEM 201 [Min Grade: D] and MEM 435 [Min Grade: D])
