MEM 4310 Thermodynamics Analysis 3.0 Credits
This course examines advanced thermodynamic analysis of complex engineering systems involving multicomponent mixtures, phase change, and chemically reacting gases. Students develop a rigorous framework using thermodynamic potentials and Maxwell relations to derive property relationships and evaluate measurable quantities. Topics include ideal and real mixture behavior, chemical potential, partial molar properties, fugacity, activity, and phase and chemical equilibrium, including vapor–liquid equilibrium and reacting‑system composition. Applications span combustion analysis, adiabatic flame temperature, dissociation effects, and the thermodynamics of moist air and air‑conditioning processes, with emphasis on mathematical rigor and physical insight for modern energy and thermal systems.
