MEM 4320 Compressible Flow 3.0 Credits

This course provides an introduction to compressible flow covering the conservation of mass, momentum, and energy for high-speed gases. This includes the concepts of sonic velocity, Mach number, compressibility, and static, total, and stagnation properties. Students examine one‑dimensional isentropic flows, normal shock waves, choked-flow phenomena, as well as Fanno and Rayleigh flows. Two‑dimensional supersonic flow topics include Prandtl–Meyer expansions and oblique shock waves. Additional topics include the analysis and design of compressible‑flow devices such as supersonic nozzles, diffusers, wind tunnels, inlets, and an introduction rocket propulsion.
