MEM 4350 Fuel Cell Engines 3.0 Credits
This course presents core electrochemical principles governing fuel cell operation, including thermodynamics, electrode kinetics, and mass transfer. Emphasis is placed on operating principles, performance metrics, and application areas of modern fuel cell technologies, with primary focus on polymer electrolyte fuel cells. Students examine fuel cell design, system integration, and operating strategies, along with the influence of components on efficiency, durability, and overall system behavior. Topics of importance to mechanical engineers—water management, heat transfer, and mass transport—are covered in depth. The course concludes with current trends and future directions in fuel cell research and technology.
