MEM 4420 Mechanical Behavior of Materials 3.0 Credits
This course presents the deformation and failure behaviors of materials in engineering components subjected to monotonic or cyclic loadings in inert or aggressive environments. The emphasis is on acquiring ability to analyze and predict the damage, failure, strength, and residual life of these materials. Topics covered include elastic-plastic stress analysis, transformation of 3D stresses, multiaxial failure criteria, fracture mechanics of cracked components, fatigue crack growth, defect-free high cycle fatigue, low cycle fatigue, environmentally assisted failure, competing failure mechanisms, and residual life estimation.
Repeat Status: Not repeatable for credit
Prerequisites: MEM 2420 [Min Grade: D] or MEM 230 [Min Grade: D]
