MEM 4640 Aircraft Design and Performance 3.0 Credits

This course introduces the fundamentals of aircraft performance, including airfoil aerodynamics, steady flight analysis, and power‑required versus power‑available relationships. Students examine range and endurance, takeoff, glide, and landing performance, as well as stability topics such as stick‑force characteristics, control‑free stability, and aerodynamic moment coefficients and derivatives. The course also emphasizes practical design skills through a hands‑on Design–Build–Fly project, allowing students to apply performance principles to a flight‑ready aircraft.
