MEM 5001 Applied Engineering Mathematics I 3.0 Credits
This course emphasizes the use of analytical and numerical techniques to formulate and solve a variety of applied mathematics problems frequently encountered in engineering. Specific emphasis is given to presenting methods used to solve linear and nonlinear systems of equations, eigenvalues and optimization problems. Furthermore, a concise presentation of vector differential and integral calculus including fundamental theorems widely used in engineering principles is provided. The course concludes by presenting important numerical techniques to compute integrals, including interpolatory and Gauss quadrature. Emphasis is placed on selecting effective solution strategies and using symbolic and numerical computation tools. Applications are drawn from different areas of engineering.
