MEM 5201 Advanced Fluid Mechanics I 3.0 Credits

This course introduces fundamental and intermediate concepts in fluid kinematics and dynamics, with emphasis on analytical methods and physical interpretation. Topics include Lagrangian and Eulerian descriptions, the transport theorem, continuity and Navier-Stokes equations, vorticity dynamics, potential flows, low‑Reynolds‑number (Stokes) flows, internal flows such as circular‑pipe and channel flows, external inviscid flows, laminar boundary‑layer theory, and selected unsteady flows. Scaling and similarity analysis are used throughout to develop models relevant to mechanical and aerospace systems.
