MEM 6201 Advanced Fluid Mechanics II 3.0 Credits
This course focuses on turbulent, complex, and computational flows, building upon the foundations developed in Advanced Fluid Mechanics I. Topics include transition to turbulence, Reynolds‑averaged Navier-Stokes equations, turbulence modeling concepts, Reynolds‑stress transport, and the structure of wall‑bounded turbulence in pipes, channels, and pressure‑gradient boundary layers. Additional topics include non‑Newtonian fluid behavior and essential concepts in computational fluid dynamics, including discretization and numerical solution strategies. Emphasis is placed on physical interpretation, model limitations, and application to engineering flow systems.
Repeat Status: Not repeatable for credit
Prerequisites: MEM 5201 [Min Grade: C] or MEM 621 [Min Grade: C]
