MEM 6601 Advanced Solid Mechanics II 3.0 Credits

This course develops the theory and applications of linear elasticity for three‑dimensional solids. Topics include vector and tensor analysis, stress and strain measures, equilibrium equations, compatibility, strain energy, boundary‑value formulation in elasticity, and variational formulations and solution methods for elasticity. Solution methods for elasticity problems are examined, including Airy stress functions, displacement‑based formulations, and solutions in Cartesian and polar coordinates. Two‑dimensional elasticity, plane stress and plane strain, and the use of Fourier series and related analytical tools are also covered. Applications emphasize deformation, stress analysis, and design of structural and mechanical components.
