MEM 6701 Advanced Dynamics II 3.0 Credits

This course extends analytical dynamics to three‑dimensional rigid‑body motion and nonlinear dynamical behavior. Topics include vector and tensor descriptions of rotational kinematics; motion of particles, systems of particles, and rigid bodies about and relative to the mass center; Euler’s equations; moments of inertia; and rigid‑body balance laws. Additional topics include gyroscopic motion, axially symmetric bodies, central‑force motion, the effect of Earth’s rotation, and Foucault’s pendulum. Variational methods and Hamilton’s principle are introduced, along with state‑space and numerical integration techniques for solving nonlinear equations of motion. Selected advanced topics may include Hamiltonian dynamics, rigid‑body kinematics of complex systems, or dynamics‑based modeling for robotics and control.
