MEM 7334 Applied Optimal Control 3.0 Credits
This course introduces the principles and methods of optimal control for engineering systems. Topics include necessary conditions from the calculus of variations; equality and inequality constraints; fixed‑ and free‑final‑time problems; linear‑quadratic and bang‑bang control; neighboring extremals; the second variation; perturbation‑based feedback control; and sufficient conditions for optimality. Numerical solution techniques for boundary‑value problems are developed with applications to flight‑mechanics systems.
Repeat Status: Not repeatable for credit
