MEM 7419 Microfluidics and Lab-on-a-Chip 3.0 Credits
Microfluidics is a young field that studies fluid behavior in microscale devices, where phenomena can differ significantly from those at the macroscale. Understanding microfluidics is essential for developing lab‑on‑a‑chip systems used in chemical analysis and biomedicine (e.g., handheld blood analyzers, miniature environmental monitors, medical implants). Many such systems are expected to become part of everyday life. Designing these devices requires knowledge of microfluidic phenomena and microfabrication technologies. This course covers: (1) fundamentals and applications of microfluidics, and (2) the design and fabrication of microfluidic devices and lab‑on‑a‑chip systems. Literature review and numerical simulation are also included.
Repeat Status: Not repeatable for credit
