MEM 7677 Fracture Mechanics 3.0 Credits

This course introduces the fundamental mechanics governing fracture initiation and growth in engineering materials. Topics include linear‑elastic fracture mechanics, energy‑based methods, small‑scale yielding, fully plastic and creep crack behavior, mixed‑mode loading, and criteria for crack stability. The course also examines fatigue and environmentally assisted crack growth, material toughness and toughening mechanisms, and foundational concepts in computational fracture mechanics, with applications to structural and mechanical systems.
