This course examines women’s contributions to the music industry across a wide range of roles, sectors, and historical contexts. It explores issues of equity, representation, and gender through analysis of women’s experiences, challenges, and accomplishments as music business professionals and creatives. Students engage with current research and industry data to understand trends related to gender representation, including the intersection of gender with other identities and efforts to support greater equity. The course also considers how social and cultural constructs have shaped gender perceptions within the workplace, media, and music industry culture. Coursework emphasizes critical analysis, reflection, and engagement with professionals to support career preparation in a diverse industry landscape.
