MSE 6011 Polymer Characterization 3.0 Credits

This class covers characterization methods that are related to the structure and properties of polymeric materials. The focus will be on scattering and microscopy techniques. X-ray scattering and diffraction will be discussed to understand polymer crystalline and nanostructure. Various polymer microscopy techniques such as electron microscopy, scanning probe microscopy and polarized light microscopy will be discussed. Advanced polymer thermal analysis such as modulated differential scanning calorimetry and chip calorimetry will be covered to understand metastability of polymeric materials. The class will discuss how to use this suite of characterization tools to design experiments for targeted applications.
