MUSC 334 The Power of Black American Music 3.0 Credits

Provides an overview of American Folk music established by Black Americans in the early 1600s. Attention will be given to the African and Caribbean heritage exploring the religious, economic, cultural, and social environment that gave birth to work songs, spirituals, ragtime, blues, jazz, country, gospel, rock ‘n’ roll, rhythm & blues, soul, and hip hop. The course provides the opportunity to listen to music and highlight the musical inventions Black Americans brought to the new world.
