NURS 8010 Foundations in Nursing Science 3.0 Credits
This course provides doctoral students with an integrated introduction to the philosophical, theoretical, and methodological bases of nursing knowledge. The course examines how ontological and epistemological perspectives shape the development of nursing science and guide approaches to research, theory, and practice. Students explore major philosophical traditions, paradigms of inquiry, and the role of nursing and interdisciplinary theories in generating and applying knowledge. Through critical appraisal of scholarly literature and scientific products, learners strengthen skills in scholarly reasoning, argumentation, and evidence-based critique. The course prepares students to thoughtfully connect philosophical assumptions with research design, knowledge development, and the advancement of nursing science.
