ODS 7652 Optics 3: Physical Optics 3.0 Credits

This course is the third part of thefour-term Optics sequence and builds upon knowledge from prior courses in Optics. We explore physical optics with an in-depth discussion on interference, diffraction, and polarization. We look at higher order aberrations that impact vision as well as optical wavefront technology that can improve visual quality. We then focus on the optics of optical instruments (magnifiers and telescopes), as well as clinical instruments (direct ophthalmoscopy, binocular indirect ophthalmoscopy). Within the context of telescopes, the topics of stops, field of view, and depth of field are addressed.
