OPT 7109 Ocular Immunology & Microbiology 1.0 Credit
This course builds on the knowledge attained in the Systemic Immunology and Microbiology course. The ocular immunology aspect of this course will explore the role of the immune system in ocular disease, with a particular focus on clinical manifestations, immunopathogenesis, immunopathology, diagnosis, and treatment/management of ocular diseases, as well as ocular correlates of systemic immune-mediated diseases. This course will also provide a comprehensive understanding of the roles of the innate and adaptive immune systems in ocular homeostasis, with a particular focus on maintaining tolerance to the ocular surface microbiome and eye tissues, while providing immune protection against pathogens and harmful substances.
