OPT 8531 Contact Lens 2-Rigid & Advanced Contact Lenses 3.0 Credits

This course, which completes the two-term sequence, introduces the student to the fundamentals of gas-permeable (GP) and specialty contact lenses. Students learn how to handle, care for, design, fit, and manage standard gas-permeable rigid contact lenses. Students also learn about nuances of lens design including aspheric, lenticular, and ultrathin lens modifications to fit a larger segment of the GP lens wearing population. This also includes learning about presbyopic rigid lens fitting. Students learn to interpret corneal topography imaging, and clinically manage a wide array of potential rigid lens complications. We examine keratoconus and other corneal irregularities including treatment options.
