PA 5230 Foundations of Clinical Practice I 4.0 Credits
This first course in a two-part lecture and lab sequence builds students’ clinical reasoning and physical diagnosis skills through small group, problem based learning and hands on practice. Using organ system patient cases aligned with Clinical Medicine I, Pharmacology I, and Pathophysiology, students apply medical knowledge to develop evidence based critical thinking. Emphasis is placed on primary care, including evaluation and management of common conditions across the lifespan. Through labs and simulation, learners take comprehensive and focused histories, perform hypothesis driven exams, and document findings. The course also highlights patient centered care and cultural humility, considering gender, age, and cultural background in all interactions.
