PBHL 1012 Climate Change and Health: Understanding Risks and Solutions 3.0 Credits
Climate change is a dynamic and pressing public health challenge. This course examines how climate-related environmental exposures shape population health and how risks can be reduced using core environmental health principles. Students learn to interpret evidence and apply it to real-world public health decisions. Topics include heat, air pollution and wildfire smoke, extreme weather and flooding, water systems, food systems, infectious disease, mental health, and climate-related migration. Each topic connects health impacts to public health responses, including adaptation and mitigation, highlighting trade-offs, co-benefits, and opportunities to improve health more broadly.
